Public sector workers will now be paid using their biometric data, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has said.

This follows the completion of the biometric payroll registration exercise in six regions and the expectation that a similar exercise in the remaining four regions will be completed in July this year

Senior Managers with Information and Communication Technology staffs of Ministries and Security Agencies have been schooled on the new security incidence response system to mitigate cyber security risks from internal and external sources.

The strategy, called the National Information Technology Agency Computer Emergency Response Team, (NITACERT) has been introduced to be a coordinating center for cyber security attacks.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana registered about 13,628,817 voters during the biometric voter registration exercise with over one million likely to be expunged because they do not have valid codes.

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, told Parliament in an in-camera session on Friday that the total number will shoot up after the biometric exercise takes place in Akuse. The area was exempted from the exercise as a result of legal issues over whether the EC had the mandate to bring Akuse under Greater Accra Region. The Supreme Court ruled that it should remain under the Eastern Region

The Electoral Commission (EC) recorded between 12, 000 to 15,000 multiple registrations at the end of the biometric voter registration exercise, Mr. Safo Kantanka, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Finance and Administration has said.

He said the EC was still compiling the registration figures nationwide and also cross checking to find out areas of multiple registration and accidental multiple registrations.

Mr. Safo Kantanka said this at the opening of a one-day workshop in Koforidua on Thursday, to educate political party executives on the in-built integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.

Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday said government had embarked on high speed broadband infrastructure to connect all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to improve access to information and services for the citizenry and businesses.

"The massive and modern infrastructure network is being developed under the Ghana-China Cooperation to make the deployment of enabling applications in governance, health, education and agriculture possible," he added.

This was contained in a speech read on his behalf by Mr Ernest Attuquaye Armah, Deputy Minister of Communication at the launch of e-Government Leadership Capacity Building programme in Accra.
