Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has made amendment in the process of filing of income tax return to facilitate the taxpayers.

CBR has inserted a new sub-section (2A) in the section 114 that provides a return of income tax filed electronically on the web or any magnetic media or any other computer readable media will be considered as valid income tax return. This will come to affect on the tax year 2005 and onwards and this is in keeping with the international trends towards e-government.

Sources said that it would simplify the process of filing of income tax return and taxpayers would be able to get online filing of return of income tax. It will save their time and the door open to scam in filing process would be closed.

This amendment in the process of filing will help broaden the tax net and achieve the set target of the tax collection for the financial year 2005-06.
