On June 18th 2024, Kaohsiung Vice Mayor Charles Lin was invited to represent the Kaohsiung City Government to attend the 2nd Quarter 2024 Regular National Executive Board Meeting of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VMLP) in Manila. He delivered a keynote speech entitled “People-Oriented Smart Cities: The Experience of Kaohsiung City,” highlighting Kaohsiung’s recent efforts and successes in developing a smart city and urban transformation. During the event, he exchanged insights on urban governance with Taguig City Vice Mayor Arvin Ian V. Alit, Malabon City Vice Mayor Ninong C. Dela Cruz, San Mariano-Isabela Vice Mayor Dean Anthony G. Domalanta, and 372 other vice mayor representatives from across the Philippines.
Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC)’s Smart Port Vision Pavilion at this year’s 2024 Smart City Summit and Expo exhibition, held from March 21st to 23rd at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, reflected the exhibition’s digital x green transformation theme. The pavilion shared the results of the Taiwan ports’ Trans-SMART 2.0 Plan, introduced the joint TIPC Chunghwa Telecom 5G AIoT-based 24/7 Smart Harbor & Coastal Surveillance System Verification Project, presented new sensor technology for a 5G-integrated logistics network, and demonstrated a 24/7 IoT-based oil pollution surveillance system and an autonomous surface vehicle designed to collect and dispose of waste floating in harbor waters. These innovations would help to raise the effectiveness of port water area management and infuse new vitality into port city sustainability.

Now on its 11th year, the SCSE provides a platform to promote Taiwan's range of smart city and net-zero technologies and innovations.
Jointly organized by the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), the Kaohsiung City government, and the National Development Council (NDC), the 11th Smart City Summit and Expo (SCSE) held March 19–22 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2, and March 21–23 at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center put into the spotlight Taiwan’s smart city and net-zero city solutions developments over the past decade, and how Taiwan is collaborating with countries worldwide to advance smart city and net-zero transition initiatives.
Hundreds of government officials from 37 countries are to participate in next month’s Smart City Summit and Expo to exchange views on topics such as sustainable development and net zero emissions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
The events, focusing on the themes digital and green transformation, are to take place from March 19 to 21 at the Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei and from March 21 to March 23 at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center.
