In a step to enhance its communication between users and its experts, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) launched a new webpage 'Ask Agriculture' within its comprehensive electronic information portal UAEAgricent.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Ahmed Kulaib Al-Tenaiji, Acting Manager of UAE Agricent, said: 'Ask Agriculture' is a web based application that allows the users of the UAEAgricent web page to ask questions to the experts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.' 'Establishing this electronic application was initiated by H.E. Said Mohamed Al Ragabani, UAE Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and it comes within the recommendations of the World Food Summit,' Al-Tenaiji confirmed. 'Ask Agriculture' will enable MAF to document and publish agricultural information and would also act as a bridge between researchers in the field of Agriculture and Environment and technical experts from Academia and the Ministry in the UAE,' he added.

Al-Tenaiji pointed out that this electronic addition to the Agricnet web page is within the framework of Federal E-government with an aim to simplify communication between the Ministry and its stakeholders, and make the best use of the technological development that the UAE boasts. The UAE Agricultural information centre (UAE Agricent) is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and fisheries in the UAE and is technically supported by the world Agricultural Information Centre (WAICENT), which in turn operates under the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The Center electronically documents all agricultural information including research, studies, annual, seasonal and monthly reports related to plant, animal, fisheries and soil and water sectors. Additionally, the Center organizes and documents general statistics of agricultural sector including production, areas, services, exchange of agricultural trade commodities, the averages of self-sufficiency in crops, and other products either animal or fish production.
