When Mizonews.Net investigated the claims make by the public, it came to light that websites of crucial ministries like the Horticulture Department (http://horticulture.mizoram.gov.in), Forest Department (http://forest.mizoram.gov.in) and others returned blank white pages. The Horticulture Department which recently organised the Mizoram Anthurium Festivasl with the Tourism Department also has nothing to display.
The issue of non-functional as well as not updating departments’ websites was finally taken up by Mizoram Finance Minister Lalsawta today.
“There are at present 125 websites maintained by various Departments of the Mizoram government. The websites are meant to serve the need of the people but they are not updated as they should be,” Lalsawta said at the New Secretariat Conference Hall where discussion on Business Model and Mizoram E-payment was discussed in the context of how to boost the revenue of the state government.
The minister said that plans are being made at the fastest level so as to come out with a system whereby the people may easily approach the government and pay tax in an easier way. He has asked all the departments to get ready to provide all the needs of the people though e-governance.
“The departments are expected to update their websites as and when required,” he said.
The meeting under the leadership of Finance Minister was attended by Parliamentary Secretary K.S. Thanga and a host of important government officials.
