It’s been nine years now! Yes, since we have had a Smart City Mission, and some cynical folk like me are still looking for a Smart City.

This can mean only one of two things — A) I don’t know what a Smart City is, or B) I’m looking in the wrong place!

To be very honest I really do not know which one of the two it is, but whichever be the answer, this article is an earnest call for help!

The MIT team will make the traffic signals of Muzaffarpur city smart. But the MIT team is not getting the support of Smart City Limited. The MIT team has to prepare a master plan to determine the rotation of signals by assessing the traffic pressure at different times of the day at the intersections of the city. On the instructions of Divisional Commissioner Gopal Meena, the exercise has been going on for almost two weeks, but till now the data or footage of the intersections has not been received from the centralized control system.

Civic body officials stated that 48 projects worth Rs 159.86 crore have been completed, 16 projects worth Rs 580.35 crore are under execution and five projects worth Rs 189.79 crore have been tendered out.

The Ludhiana Smart City Limited (LSCL) has completed 70 per cent of the total projects (48 out of 69 projects) planned under the mission, said Ludhiana Municipal Corporation in a statement Saturday.

The 8th foundation day of Smart City Mission was celebrated across the country with great fervour. On this occasion, some infrastructure development programmes were undertaken on behalf of Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL).

Under this, the citizens were informed about various projects of Smart City. They were also informed about the ongoing projects in the city under the Smart City project. On this occasion, the citizens present expressed their hope that Nagpur will soon complete its journey as a smart city.

As the capital completes eight years of being a ‘smart city’ on Sunday, the mission has brought several changes in its infrastructural facilities as well as social aspects, but there are areas where the authorities are lagging behind in implementing its objectives, urban planners said.

Announced on January 28, 2016, the smart city proposal of Bhubaneswar was adjudged the best in the country for its financial viability and the feasibility in the execution of different planned projects. Though many projects could not take off or were dropped midway, a few others have made their impact.
