  • IN: Govt launches index to rank states, UTs on good governance parameters

    The Good Governance Index will provide quantifiable data to compare the state of governance in all states and Union territories

    A good governance index (GGI) was launched on Wednesday by the central government to assess the state of governance in the country, according to a statement issued by the Personnel Ministry.

    The objectives of GGI are to provide quantifiable data to compare the state of governance in all states and Union territories, enable them to formulate and implement suitable strategies for improving governance and shift to result oriented approaches and administration, the statement said.

  • IN: Himachal ranked second in e-governance in the country

    Himachal Pradesh has been ranked second among all states and Union territories across the country for its contribution in promoting e-governance. The state won the award during the Digital India Week held in July this year.

    A spokesman of the state government said here on Saturday that the award would be presented on Good Governance Day in New Delhi on December 28 by Union minister of communication and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad.

    Assam’s Guwahati Municipal Corporation was ranked 46 among 49 cities in the Ease of Living Index survey

    Several Northeast cities featured in the 2020 City Rankings for the most livable and best-performing cities. The list was released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Thursday for 111 smart cities across the country.

    Out of ten smart cities in the Northeast region, Guwahati smart city was ranked in the category above one million, and the remaining cities were ranked in the category below one million.

  • IN: Chhattisgarh Awarded as the Tech Leader in Use of IT Services

    Chhattisgarh has received Dataquest e-Readiness Award for extensive use of IT services in state. Chief executive officer (CEO) of Chhattisgarh Info-tech And Bio-Tech Promotion Society (CHIPS) A M Pariyal received the award in a grand ceremony on Thursday, in New Delhi, where IT experts from across the nation were present.

    Chhattisgarh has been awarded ‘Best e-Government State Award’ by Computer Society of India twice before. Chief minister Raman Singh said that Chhattisgarh is one of the leading states in the field of information technology, and extended heartiest congratulations and good wishes to officials and employees of CHIPS.

  • IN: Competing digitally

    India's efforts for coming at par with developed countries in terms of digital advancements have earned it not only the people's praise for convenience to easy access to the internet, but the recognition has been a global one as India rises four places in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2019 (WDCR ) and sits at rank 44.

    The most remarkable advancement in 2019 was in the technology sub-factor level, where India held the first position in telecommunications investment. This ranking measures the capacity and readiness of 63 nations to adopt and explore digital technologies as a key driver for economic transformation in business, government and society at large.

  • IN: Delhi, Kerala, Goa, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh top e-Readiness rankings

    The Dataquest-CyberMedia Research e-Readiness Assessment of Indian States 2013 revealed that Delhi, Kerala, Goa, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh had topped the rankings in the overall planning, implementation and outcomes generated from their IT policy initiatives, administrative reforms and roll-out of e-Governance programmes.

    Ibrahim Ahmad, Group Editor, Dataquest, said: "Close to 66 percent of India's population is currently under the age of 35 years. This means that the aspirations and wants of the current generation of Indians are very different from those of their parents' or grand parents' generations. The advent and widespread adoption of Information Technology, particularly the Internet and mobile telephony have added a completely new dimension to the awareness and expectation levels of Indians from all walks of life."

  • IN: Himachal Pradesh: Shimla secures 16th place in ‘climate smart city’ ratings

    Of 125 participating cities, Dharamsala on 90th position

    Shimla and Dharamsala, two smart cities of the state, have secured 16th and 90th positions, respectively, in the Climate Smart City Assessment Framework (CSCAF). As many as 125 cities had participated in the assessment.

  • IN: Indore tops in Smart City contest, Surat & Agra rank 2nd and 3rd

    Indore has bagged the best “National Smart City Award” for exemplary performance among the 100 smart cities in the fourth edition since the Central government started the contest. Surat and Agra have emerged as the second and third winners among cities.

    The results for the fourth edition of India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) for 2022 were announced on Friday. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the results for 2021 could not be announced last year.

  • IN: Jharkhand: Ranchi secures second position among 100 smart cities in national rankings

    In a commendable achievement, Ranchi Smart City has secured the second position among the 100 smart cities across the country, as per the rankings released by the Central Government. Ranchi earned a remarkable 324.48 points out of 350, showcasing its notable development initiatives. The rankings, based on overall performance, were officially released on Thursday.

    Jharkhand’s capital city fell just short of the top spot, with Surat city in Gujarat securing the first position with 335.79 points. The rankings reflect the comprehensive efforts and achievements in urban development and smart city initiatives.

  • IN: Karnataka: Global award for Palike’s property project

    City ranked top among 90 cities in e-governance

    The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is ranked first among the 90 cities in the world by an international organisation for good practices in e-governance, especially in allotting Unique Property Identity Number (UPID) to all the properties through the Geographic Information System (GIS).

    Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy told mediapersons here on Friday that the World e-Governments Organisation of Cities and Local Governments (WeGO), a Korea-based organisation has chosen the Palike in the best e-government efficiency category for the first WeGo Awards-2012.

  • IN: Kerala: Thiruvananthapuram: Capital rises to 21st position among India’s ‘smart cities’

    The capital has steadily risen in ranks to attain 21st position in the country among cities under Smart City Mission project. The scheme for 100 cities in the country was rolled out by the Union government in June, 2015.

    A total of 20 cities were selected in the first round by January, 2016. As many as 40 cities were selected by September, 2016, in the second round.

  • IN: Madhya Pradesh: In new ranking system, Bhopal tops smart city list

    On the heels of completion of a slew of projects, Bhopal smart city has once again regained the numero uno spot in the ranking of Smart Cities Mission of the Union government, according to a Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (BSCDCL) press release issued n Saturday.

    “Bhopal has reached the first position in the country due to smart city’s teamwork. We are regularly reviewing works. Efforts are being made to complete the works of Smart City Mission on time and with quality,” said BSCDCL CEO Aditya Singh.

  • IN: Madhya Pradesh: Indore secures first place in Smart City ranking

    The country’s cleanest city Indore, in a new All India Smart City ranking on Wednesday issued by the central government, adjusted at the first position for its securing 89.24% marks.

    “Indore Smart City Developed Limited has secured first place in the overall ranking of the works being done in different categories in all the smart cities of the country” ISCDL’s executive director and IMC commissioner Pratibha Pal said.

  • IN: Maharashtra: From No 1 to No 44, Nagpur slips in Smart City Rankings

    From no. 1 position in March and no. 28 in May last year, Nagpur has slipped to no. 44 in smart city rankings released by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs on January 15. Under the ‘execution of smart city projects’, the city scored 53.71 marks.

    The rankings were based on various parameters like expenditure, project implementation and performance of civic bodies etc. When municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe was hold the additional charge of CEO of Smart City, the performance of Nagpur city in the ranking index was 28. Later, it had improved to 23 when the deputy CEO was holding the additional charge of CEO.

  • IN: Maharashtra: Pune 28th in ‘internal’ ranking of smart cities

    The city slipped to the 28th position in the internal ranking of smart cities from the last year’s 17th, prompting the Pune Smart Development Corporation Limited authorities cite delay in updating data as the reason for the slide.

    “This is not the final annual ranking. It is just a weekly update. The city’s rank has fallen because the updated information was not shared with the authority concerned. The ranking will improve once the data is updated,” said Rubal Agarwal, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Pune Smart Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL), adding that lack of manpower triggered the delay in updating the data of the city.

  • IN: Maharashtra: Pune smart city ranking jumps up four spots

    Pune’s jump in the rankings has also helped the state’s rank go up. Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said that they are hopeful that the ranking would further improve in future.

    Despite being one of the worst-affected cities in the Covid-19 pandemic, the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited secured the 13th rank in India and the 1st spot in Maharashtra, owing to its performance in completing the smart city projects.

  • IN: Nagaland tops e-governance service list

    Assam came second with 0.28 while Manipur stood third

    Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday said the state has been recognised as a top state in the national e-governance service delivery assessment (NeSDA) at a national e-governance conference in Mumbai recently.

    According to the NeSDA report, Nagaland topped the list among the northeastern and hill states of India, while Assam came second with 0.28 while Manipur stood third, he said.

  • IN: Nagaland: Kohima ranks among top 10 ‘smart cities’ in India

    Kohima smart city has ranked 10th out of the 100 smart cities in India, and has been certified as “enabled”, in the Data Maturity Assessment Framework (DMAF) 2.0, officials said on June 27.

    According to a report of the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, during the sixth anniversary celebration of Smart City Mission, AMRUT and PMAY (Urban) on June 25, Kohima was announced as the only smart city in the Northeast region to make it to the top 10. Kohima shares the 10th position with two other cities of Raipur and Thane, according to a press release issued by Avelu Ruho, joint CEO Kohima Smart City Development Limited.

  • IN: Punjab: Ludhiana ranked 2nd in e-governance in state

    The city has scored second rank in Punjab in the 'Digital India Week' celebration for providing services to the residents under e-governance. While Muktsar ranked first, Patiala managed to get third spot.

    Deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal said that a letter in this regard was received by them from the additional secretary, central department of electronics and information technology, that stated that an award function would be held on December 28, 2015, at India Habitat Center, New Delhi. The award would be given by Union minister (communications and information technology) Ravi Shankar Prasad and the day would be celebrated as 'Good Governance Day'.

  • IN: Punjab: Ludhiana: City 48 in Smart City rankings

    Ludhiana has ranked 48 in Smart City rankings in the country. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs published a list of rankings of 100 cities on Friday.

    According to information, Agra got rank 1 by getting 73.17 score. Ludhiana got 48th rank with a score of 34.72. The city ranking has been given on the basis of project implementation, fund transfer and fund utilisation.
