Maribyrnong council has taken another step towards plans for the area to become a ‘smart city’, with the launch of the Smart City Strategic Framework and a showcase tour of Footscray.
Hosted on behalf of the Australian Smart Communities Association, the networking event saw participants inspect how smart technologies are being utilised in Footscray.
The initiative took its first steps in 2019 after the council received a $400,000 grant from the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program to deliver the Smart City for Social Cohesion project.

The NSW Government has launched a $2.4 million partnership with two Sydney universities to bring smart cities technology to regional councils. Wendy Tuckerman
The Smart Regional Spaces: Ready, Set, Go! is a partnership with the University of Sydney and UNSW Sydney under the Smart Places Strategy.
The project will run for 16-months and the team is seeking to partner with three regional NSW councils to pilot a process and range of tools to help them become ‘smart-ready’, which will then be made available to all regional councils in the state after the project.

Sydney is one of the top ten digital cities in a ranking of global cities measuring how cities are performing in relation to internet speed and strategies and policies for new technologies.
The inaugural Digital Cities Index (DCI) 2022 ranks 30 global cities across the four thematic pillars of connectivity, services, culture and sustainability.
The index combines quantitative and qualitative analysis, including a survey of 3,000 residents across all cities in the index.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is transforming the way we deliver patient care with a $150 million investment over the next four years to upgrade our digital health infrastructure.
The 2022-23 State Budget commitment forms part of a Digital Health Strategy and it is anticipated more than $475 million will be allocated to this project over the next 10 years as the strategy is further scoped and developed.
This investment will see the launch of a new state-wide fully integrated care platform that will enable our hospitals, GPs, community health, allied health, and other specialist providers to seamlessly communicate and share information with each other.
