In a move that will help expedite the process of solving crime cases, investigation departments of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) in all wilayats will soon be linked through a system of biometrics.

The new project, called 'Yaqeen', aims to reunite all the biometrics in one framework, an ROP official told the Times of Oman. The new system will help in resolving crimes faster as well as in tracking and nabbing culprits, said the official.

The Sultanate won two awards in the best e-government mobile service category during its participation in the third e-Government Summit held in Dubai attended by more than 3,000 participants from 87 countries.

Information Technology Authority (ITA ) received the best e-government mobile services on the Arab level in social affairs category for the donation portal for charitable organisation applications. The Public Authority for Consumer Protection received the best e-government mobile service on the Arab level in economy and trade category for the smart phone guide application.

In line with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) efforts in eTransformation, a delegation from ITA headed by Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA , visited USA last week to benefit from their best practices in eGovernment field. The visit also aimed at discussing ways of cooperation between the Sultanate and the United Nations (UN) represented by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Statistics Division of the Organization and the World Bank.

The delegation was briefed on the experience of the United Stated in several related areas, including open data, eParticipation and smart cities. The visit also included a series of meetings with senior officials of the organization, including the United Nations team who is assessing the eGovernment development, in order to discuss the United Nations eGovernment Survey Report.

The Sultanate represented by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) received on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, the World Summer Award for the Best Public Mobile Application in 2014 on the world level.

Ahmed bin Said al- Busaidi, Assistant Director General of Studies and Development at PACP received the Award in the presence of Peter A, Chairman of the Award and a number of personalities from the different parts of the world.

The Ministry of Defence and the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) celebrated on Wednesday the launch of the portal of the Ministry of Defence, Sahab Project.

The portal is aimed to help in providing many electronic services to its personnel. It will also be available to the civil society of citizens, residents, visitors, interested persons, as well as government and private institutions, through the Internet.
