  • Kyrgyzstan to introduce e-government strategy

    A roundtable last week discussed the final draft of the Strategy for e-Government introduction in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2014-2017 and the Action Plan for its implementation.

    The draft strategy has been developed by the State e-Government Center in collaboration with the UNDP to radically improve the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) by the state executive bodies and local authorities to improve their efficiency, transparency and expand the range of electronic services in accordance with the National Sustainable Development Strategy of Kyrgyzstan for 2013-2017.

  • Liechtenstein: Informatik- und eGovernment-Strategie 2011

    Die Regierung hat dem Landtag einen Bericht und Antrag über die Realisierung der "Informatik- und eGovernment-Strategie 2011" unterbreitet. Damit möchte die Regierung das in sich abgestimmte Gesamtpaket einer Informatik- und eGovernment-Strategie zur Kenntnis bringen und sowohl über die bisher geleistete Arbeit als auch über die Hintergründe einer Neuausrichtung und Aktualisierung der derzeitigen Strategien informieren. Um die damit verbundenen Kosten zu decken, soll auch ein Finanzbeschluss behandelt werden, mit dem zwei Nachtragskredite für das Jahr 2008 von insgesamt 1'125'000 Franken genehmigt werden sollen.

  • Montserrat formulating E-Government strategy

    More than 15 senior members of staff from various government departments in Montserrat began a two-day workshop on developing an E-Government strategy on Monday.

    The workshop comes on the heels of the successful ICT Roadshow which highlighted the necessity for the island to develop a national information communication technologies (ICT) strategy, which would stimulate the island’s economy and social development.

  • MT: ICT usage strategies announced

    Two strategies to boost the usage of ICT by society and enterprise were launched today by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA).

    The new strategies titled Networked Society and Networked Enterprise out the Authority’s vision and a three year programme of initiatives to bring about wider ICT adoption and use within society and amongst enterprises.

    IT Minister Austin Gatt described the strategies as a bold drive to ensure that the benefits of technologies are enjoyed by everyone.

  • National Information Technology Public and Private Forum lists strategies for digital Nigeria

    To achieve digital inclusion in the 21st century knowledge economy, stakeholders from public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy at the end of the just concluded National Information Technology Public and Private Forum (NITPPF), held in Edo State, outlined strategies for a digital Nigeria.

    The NITPPF is the premier event where IT public sector administrators, professionals, business leaders, high level public officials and opinion leaders from all parts of Nigeria come together to share and build a vision of a connected knowledge base with access for all.

  • Nepal: IT-Policy revision after nine years

    The Information Technology Policy is being revised after nine years, with the vision to bring Nepal on the global map and at par with international standards. The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is looking to bring about an IT revolution by creating a strong change in policies in the sector to bring social and economic growth and development.

    “It is very challenging to implement the policies but revising it is the first step towards that,” said Ramhari Aryal, secretary at the Ministry of Science and Technology.

  • NG: Federal Government Must Adopt Key Technologies to Attain Vision 20:2020

    The Federal Government has been challenged to embrace and adopt a new technology approach, if Nigeria must attain vision 20:2020, which seeks to position the country among the top 20 economies of the world by the year 2020.

    Chief Executive Officer of Development Information Network (DevNet), Mr. Bankole Olubamise, who gave the advice at the recently concluded 11th International Conference of the Nigeria Computer Society in Iloko Ijesha, Osun State, said Nigerian government in the 21st Century must embrace key technology and optimise its service delivery process, through shared vision, before thinking of attaining vision 20:2020.

  • NG: Government’s ICT ignorance ‘a threat to Vision 20:2020’

    Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) says if the pervasive ignorance about information communication technology (ICT) in and out of government is not addressed, attainment of Visions 20:2020 of the Federal Government will remain a mirage.

    NITDA is the clearing house for IT projects in the public sector with the mandate to bring government and its services closer to the people through IT. It was also created to implement of the National IT policy, which seeks to make Nigeria an IT capable country in no distant future.

  • NG: Hamornised National ICT Policy Out Soon --Johnson

    Following the presentation of the report of the Committee on review and updating of the National Telecommunications Policy of 2000, last weekend, Nigeria would soon get National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) policy.

    Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs. Omobola Olubusola Johnson, made this disclosure at the Nigerian Telecomms Awards, hosted by Logica Media Group in Lagos at the weekend in commoration fo the 10 years of telecommunications in the country.

    She said the review report was presented to her last week Friday in Abuja and would soon be fianlised to give new meaning to a National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) policy for the country after harmonisation with existing National Information Technology policy.

  • NG: ICT strategic to Vision 20:2020, says Okonjo-Iweala

    The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said that Information and Communication Technology, ICT, was critical to Nigeria’s quest to become one of the leading economies in the next seven years, as spelt out in the Vision 20:2020.

    Okonjo-Iweala said this while inspecting an ultramodern ICT factory of Omatek Computers Plc in Lagos at the weekend.

    Quoting latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy said: “Each year, about 1.8 million young Nigerians entre our labour market and we need to ensure that our economy provides jobs for them and ICT is one of the sectors that can help in addressing this menace.”

  • NG: Ministry lists achievements, stakeholders set agenda for 2013

    The Federal Ministry of Communications Technology, created by President Goodluck Jonathan barely a year ago, to fast track the development of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the country, has identified the increase in rural telephone penetration; development of incubation centre; new Right of Way guidelines; launch of student PC ownership scheme among others as some of its achievement in the ICT industry so far.

    Besides, stakeholders in the sector have enumerated ways of improving on the industry’s 2012 performance in 2013, with a call for a drastic resolution in tackling various impediments that hindered the expansion of broadband services in the country and poor telecommunications services.

  • Nigerian Doctors Seek National Policy On E-Health

    Federal government has been urged to urgently develop and establish an effective strategy for the implementation of e- Health in Nigeria.

    President of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Osahon Enabulele who made the plea in Lagos, regretted that Nigeria is yet to explore the many benefits of e-Health, which he described as a safe, secure, ethical and cost effective transmission and exchange of health data and information.

    Experts from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector emphasised on the need for preparing Nepal’s clear agendas to be submitted during the World Conference on International Telecommunications 2012 (WCIT-12).

    International Telecommunication Regulations (ITRs), said director at Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) Ananda Raj Khanal in a programme organised by Internet Society Nepal Chapter.

  • Oman takes to the IT highway

    The Sultanate has developed a national strategy for building its digital society and eGovernment, Ali Masoud Al Sunaidy, chairman of the Board of Information Technology Authority (ITA), said.

    He was speaking at the event held yesterday to present the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment, which was held at the Grand Hall, Sultan Qaboos University Cultural Center.

    Bill Clinton, former United States president was the keynote speaker at the event and His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Said was the chief guest.

  • Openforum Europe welcomes UK Government ICT strategy, and urges implementation at local level

    On 30 March 2011 the Cabinet Office published the 'Government ICT Strategy', confirming the UK's determination to move its public sector away from being locked in to large-scale single supplier proprietary software solutions.

    Openforum Europe (OFE) welcomed the move and urged local and regional public bodies around the UK to follow central government's lead.

    "The Strategy focuses on an open approach to ICT, mandating open standards, re-aligning the playing field for open source, and encouraging greater SME participation in government ICT contracts. This is all to be commended," said Graham Taylor, chief executive of OFE.

  • Palestinian National Authority unveils governmental communications and IT strategy

    The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has outlined its strategy for the introduction of up-to-date communications and information management solutions as parts of the national state building effort, the Palestine News & Info Agency reports. The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MTIT) has said that its strategy for a unified communications and government computer centre will ‘build a more connected government, foster national unity and accelerate e-government services,’ and the regulator expects to adopt new innovations in hosted services, cloud computing and person-to-person networking in order to provide real-time voice, data and video collaboration solutions across the existing government network. Unified communications services are expected to be deployed initially in the West Bank, although the Palestinian government expects the project to improve cooperation and collaboration among all of its departments and public institutions. Further, this ‘whole of government’ approach is expected to improve information flow within government, enhance national cohesiveness, and lower operational costs.

  • PH masterplan bats for DICT, dev’t of IT pool

    To further develop the country’s ICT industry, a new six-year masterplan crafted by the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) is pushing for the establishment of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the strengthening of the local labor pool.

    The Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2011-2016, which was released on May 30, “envisions inclusive growth for the country with good governance and anti-corruption as overarching theme”, according to Neda.

    In the document, it was argued that “transforming the CICT into the DICT should result in a thorough implementation of the national e-strategies cutting across other critical sectors such as e-education and e-health, and the country’s representation in international and regional ICT bodies.”

  • PH: eGov masterplan unveiled

    The government’s top ICT agency on Tuesday launched the country’s the E-Government Master Plan (EGMP) which identifies key priority areas of e-government for 2014-2016.

    Officials said the plan will guide government agencies in aligning their information systems’ strategic plans to the national e-government priorities such as efficiency and transparency.

    The National ICT Summit 2013 also served as the venue for the government to provide updates on several its initiatives in e-government, ICT policy development, and cyber security.

  • PH: Gov't implements technology dev't agenda

    The Department of Science and Technology (DoST) Tuesday assured that it is fully committed to fully implement this year and beyond its Five-Point Development Program in line with President Aquino’s national development agenda.

    DoST Secretary Mario G. Montejo explained that the first in the department’s agenda for 2012 is to explore avenues opened by public and private partnerships (PPPs) in order to use Science and Technology to solve pressing national problems.

  • Philippine IT sector to launch five-year digital strategy plan

    The Commission on ICT (CICT) will launch this month the Philippine Digital Strategy (PDS) plan for 2011- 2015 aimed at mapping out the country’s ICT direction.

    With the theme ‘Transformation 2.0: A Digitally Empowered Nation’, the plan seeks to contribute to the administration’s ‘Social Contract with the Filipino People’, mainly by leveraging the use of ICT for national development.

    The PDS identifies four strategic thrusts, namely:

    1. transparent government and efficient services delivery,
    2. internet opportunities for all,
    3. investing in people: digital literacy for all, and
    4. ICT industry and business innovation for national development.
