Sudatel wants to facilitate e-government, e-health and other business and consumer services

Nokia and telecommunications and technology provider, Sudatel, are collaborating on delivery of ultra-broadband for Sudan which, as well as deliver high-speed voice, data and video and fixed and mobile packages, will be used for e-government, e-health and other applications. The collaboration will focus initially on the capital city of Khartoum.

According to a report by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), it revealed that some 230 million jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa will require some level of digital skills by 2030.

Forbes also predicts that 85% of jobs that will be available in 2030 haven’t yet been invented, as the work humans do will continually shift due to the fact that most jobs will become obsolete due to the emergence of new ones.

Khartoum- Sudan’s Communications and Information Technology Commission (CTC) announced an approximately one billion dollars in government fees being collected through e-platforms over the past six months.

The digital government initiative was recently launched in the North African state.

The ministry also announced completing a communication network that is expected to host about 1,000 e-services. All of which will be launched by the end of next year.

The conference came within the framework of preparing for the Twelfth Information Concourse scheduled to begin in North Kordofan September 1 as part of the Kordofan Renaissance Project implemented by the state’s government.

Ministry of Communications and Information Technology revealed the possibility of providing technologies that enable members of the National Council, Council of States and the states legislatures of computerization their work and to continue discussion even outside the parliament and official meetings.

Minister of Communications, Dr. Tahani Abdallah Attiya expressed full readiness of the ministry to complete and activate the networking between the administration and the National Assembly, Council of States and the states legislatures and the secretariats of governments at the level of the different states of the country.

This came during his meeting yesterday with the Minister of Science and Communication, Dr. Tahani Abdullah.

The minister said, in a press statement, that she enlightened the FVP on the e-government programme.

The Vice President of the Republic, Hassabou Mohamed Abdul Rahman, Thursday , has inspected the work in Suda-Tel Database Center, its capabilities and the services it provides to the government and private institutions.

The Vice President has asserted the Presidency of the Republic auspices to the center, its development, the facilitation of the required procedures for the work with the institutions, banks and the communication companies, noting to the state's concern with the promotion of the communications in the country to preserve the level it has achieved.

Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology Dr. Tahani Abdalla Attiya , has affirmed that the sector of mail in the country is awaiting a new cycle of boom in the light of the expansion in the applications of the electronic government.

She noted that the mail companies will represent the complementary part of the electronic trade by undertaking the main role in delivering commodities, services and documents.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Badr-Eddin Mahmoud has said that the aim of adopting electronic receipt voucher (15) as a collection tool for the state's revenues was to raise collection efficiency to increase revenues and to prevent many misuses that were occurring in the paper-based system.

The minister pointed out, when he presented a report on the electronic receipt voucher (15) in the joint meeting of the sectors of the Council of Ministers Thursday, that the electronic collection of money was an important step for the implementation of e-government. He called on the ministries, states and all concerned parties to be committed to the application of the project of money collection through electronic receipt voucher (15).

The minister asserted the need for the centre to improve service conditions of its staff in order to attract national experienced cadres.

Attachment of National Centre for Food Research to said ministry was also discussed at the meeting.

State Minister at ministry of finance Dr. Abdul Rahman Dirar reassured on e-collection procession which witnessed considerable stability at the collection sites that came in the periodic meeting for watching the implementation of e-collection.

Dr. Dirar instructed citizens and all different bodies to verify the validity of e-voucher No15 by sending an SMS to the number 1501 , to make sure that their payments deposited in the treasury of the State , he also listened to a report from Nile Center for Technical Research to develop a framework of e-voucher 15 for e-payment works to separate the service from the e-payment way to provide multiple channels for the people to pay for the service after getting an invoice from e-voucher system, and this framework activates the gateway of the governmental services through the National Center for Information for the start of e-Government.

This was announced by the Vice President, Riek Machar, during the official launch of a symposium on Information Technology (IT) under the theme, ‘Mitigating digital transformation challenges.’

In his opening statement which he read on behalf of the President, Salva Kiir, Vice President Machar said it was important for the government to link all the state capitals with fiber optic communication system and transform the government into an electronic government (E-government), which he also said was pivotal for public service reform.

According to the ministry, this issue was discussed in Baku within the meeting between Azerbaijani Communication and IT minister Ali Abbasov and Sudan's Minister of Science and Communications Issa Bashari.

Sudanese minister said that his country is ready to attract Azerbaijani companies in the privatization process in the ICT sector and participation in major projects implemented in Sudan, in particular close acquaintance with Azerbaijan's experience in creating e-government.

Sudan may well be transitioning into the technological hub of Africa.

The Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Transformation of Sudan has invited Bitcoin SV (BSV) to its country to learn more about blockchain technology and how it can help the African nation enter the global digital economy. The Republic of the Sudan has a long history of armed conflict, which was exacerbated by an authoritarian president who was in power for 30 years. It has debilitated the country and has prevented economic and technological growth. As Sudan transitions to a democracy, it has started its campaign for digital transformation with government on blockchain.

Beyond simply collecting the biometric data of all the population, other aspects of the project include creation of a system for personal ID number and subsequent ID card that makes use of the collected biometric data for citizens and the establishment of a fiber optic-based communication network.

In a report presented to the council of ministers last month, Sudan’s Minister of Interior Ibrahim Mahmoud said that all financial and technical preparations had been completed to commence the process on Monday, 16 May.

According to Mahmoud, whose ministry will maintain the registry, the technical arrangements include advanced registration methods and ameliorated system of personal ID and civil fingerprint as well as the establishment of the registry’s communication network through optical fiber cables.
