She said employees' altitude to work remained embarrassing and unproductive and so management found it prudent and relevant to adopt such a technique to curb the indiscipline among employees.

Anchored on the theme, “Enhancing Citizen Participation in the e-Governance Process”, the platform has been created to educate the public, create awareness and enhance citizen’s participation in the e-governance transformation process in Ghana.

Inmates OF 21 prisons centres in the country can now enjoy the luxury of learning Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as part of their reformative process.

This follows the establishment of computer centres at the 21 prisons outlets to enable inmates, especially those who willingly want to study computer and its related courses, to do so.

A Deputy Minister of Communications, Mr George Andah, has urged independent Internet service providers (ISPs) to inter-operate to boost efficiency in their operations, in line with the government’s agenda to use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as a tool to promote socio-economic development.

“We are insisting that service providers provide easy access to the Internet which cuts across the quality of service experience, access and affordability, in line with the policy direction of the Ministry of Communications. It is imbedded in their licence and we are not going to compromise on that,“ he said.

The two-storey facility forms part of government’s drive to achieving the Goal Two of the Millennium Development Goals; of achieving universal primary education.

He said improved broad Information Communication Technology would also improve opportunities for education and training, transportation, protection of environment and management of natural resources, and to support E-government to create transparency in government.

Dr Boamah said this at the 5th ICT Conference of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Accra on Tuesday.

The three day conference is on the theme: "Mobile Service that empowers vulnerable communities" and 350 participants from five continents were taking part in the conference.

He said this would help promote quality teaching and learning in the country, since education was the bedrock of the nation's development.

"Teachers, who impart the needed knowledge to future leaders of the nation, should adequately be supplied with the needed teaching and learning materials, including computers, to enhance the teaching of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools," he said.

Speaking at the opening of the first e-Commerce Expo, Dr. Omane Boamah said introduction of the e-system shows government to e-commerce has already rolled-out a set of e-services which include web content management, e-Forms and Document Work Flow.

It is being carried out by Savana Signatures (Savsign), a non-governmental Organisation (NGO), operating in the region.

Mr Stephen Agbenyo, Executive Director of Savsign, who announced these, said the NGO would use multi-media technology, voice and SMS messages to educate pregnant women on daily basis on what they were expected to do, their diets and general information to inform their health decisions.

He said even though ICT has become a lucrative sector in terms of job creation, business growth and rewards, career in ICT had somehow become mainly dominated by males.

Mr Vanpercy made the remarks in a speech read on his behalf by Mrs Florence Martey, NCA Deputy Engineer, at a "Girls in ICT" Marathon training programme on Wednesday in Accra.

Ten electronic gate (E-gate) systems for automated border control will be operationalised at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in February this year.

The programmes are directed at building the capacity of the officers to enhance greater efficiency and coordination in delivering government programmes and policies.

The computers were secured from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, at the request of Mr Majisi to facilitate the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the district.

In the face of the country’s noble quest to have every Ghanaian registered and provided a National ID card, we woke up on Wednesday to the news that the National Identification Authority [NIA], the outfit responsible will spend a whopping $1.22billion for the exercise.

Among other things, the DG of NIA, Prof Ken Attafuah said, the 15 years project is hinged on a “design-build-operate-transfer” agreement which will see both government and the private partner make some financial commitments. The private partners share of this burden is $678 million, the government of Ghana component, $531 million,” making up the $1.22billion.
