Dr. Nyonator was speaking at the opening of the 10th annual general conference of the Medical Superintendents’ Group (MSG) Ghana, under the theme: “Quality hospital information management system; a tool for improved health care delivery” on Wednesday in Sunyani.

The fund-raising was done at a joint durbar to climax this year’s traditional Yam Festival celebrations under the theme, “The significance of ICT Education in contemporary Ghana-the role of the citizen.”

The event marked the resumption of co-operation between Dodome-Doglome and Dodome-Awuiasu communities in marshalling resources for development after 25 years of suspension.

Mr Opoku gave the advice at the inauguration of the new biometric passport processing centre in Sunyani. The biometric passport contains personal data in an electronic form including scanned photograph and the finger prints of the applicant. Mr Opoku said the increasing cases of impersonation, identity fraud, forgery and embezzlement among others necessitated the new security features in passport.

“We should not rush them into doing things that will cost the nation...Come election day, if we don’t take time we might actually plunge the country into total chaos and confusion, if we only depended solely on [the biometric voting]” he told Joy News on Friday.

The Western Regional Licensing Officer of the DVLA, Mr Godson Wemegah, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi on Tuesday.

The Regional Licensing Officer said the biometric license is intended to check unscrupulous people from selling fake licenses to unsuspecting drivers as well as standardizing the registration of drivers.

The project, which will begin as a pilot, is expected to also enhance transparency in the public procurement process; provide a common platform for use by public institutions in public procurement and public financial management; and enhance competition by facilitating increased participation of service providers for government contracts.

The country's e-governance platform has been launched in Accra.

Eleven services of the government, which includes application for Police reports, certified true copy of birth certificates, and National ID cards can now be applied for on-line.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Communications Minister, who announced this, said, the focus of the project will be to provide a shared and secured interoperability of government IT architecture to ensure that, IT platforms is more effectively unified, managed and aligned to provide better support for Government applications.

He said, the Ministry in its bid to protect vital and confidential Government and public sector information is constructing a national data centre to which the national portal will be linked on completion.

The infrastructure, he said, would facilitate the provision of last mile solutions by the private sector to ensure a complete network infrastructure and provide adequate bandwidth capacity for e-services.

The project seeks to capture data provided by any of the revenue agencies to be shared online by the collaborating agencies and ensure online business registration.

This was made known by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Hon. Martin A.B.K. Amidu during the Ministry’s turn at the Meet the Press series held in Accra today.

A two-day e-government workshop to deliberate on digital economy programmes has opened in Accra to foster government approach to e-government implementation in Ghana.

Organised by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), the workshop also seeks to ensure collaboration and raise national awareness as well as understanding of stakeholder responsibilities in its implementation.

The students demonstrated this when they used the E-voting system during their 2011 SRC elections which unlike previous years ended without any post-election controversies.

The Deputy Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Osei Bonsu, disclosed this at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council meeting in Koforidua, on Friday.

He said the Kwaebibirim District recorded the highest number of registered voters with a figure of 119427, whilst Upper Manya District recorded the lowest figure of 35,589.

The Eastern Corridor Project, stretching nearly 600 kilometres from Ho in the Volta region to Bawku in the Upper East region, will be linked to the existing network in other parts of the country and facilitate network access to 27 District and Municipal Assemblies and surrounding communities.

The project was started in four districts including New Juaben, Yilo Krobo, Lower Manya Krobo and Asuogyaman districts.

Information obtained by the Ghana News Agency on Saturday indicates that the EC SMS platform seeks to expand registered voters access to the Provisional Voters Register through their mobile handsets at the lowest possible network rates.

On his second day of cross examining Dr. Bawumia, Counsel Quarshie-Idun sought to rationalize the occurrence of voting without biometric verification by suggesting that the law and reality meant that certain persons like the disabled were exempt from biometric verification. This ostensibly was to pave way for the EC to justify the over 535,000 people who according to evidence on the face of the pink sheets were allowed to vote across the country without going through biometric verification.

The Electoral Commission announced this when it met with its district officers in preparation for the biometric registration exercise which would be undertaken soon.

The Electoral Commission told Citi News in an interview after the pilot run of the biometric exercise that the entire exercise was successful.

Speaking at a media encounter to brief journalists on the EC’s preparedness for the exercise, the EC boss gave the assurance that the biometric register will be ready for use in the December polls.
