  • AE: Mohammed launches Best m-Government Service Award

    His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice -President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched the “Best m-Government Service Award”, an initiative to motivate government agencies to provide innovative solutions in the field of smart phone applications, mobile websites and SMS.

    His Highness Shaikh Mohammed emphasised that “the launch of the new award was in line with the m-Government initiative which was launched last week to define the future e-government that will be racing against time to identify and fulfill the public needs around the clock in an innovative manner that will exceed their expectations.”

  • AE: DEWA leads Dubai e-Government Quality Services

    Demonstrating its successful and excellent e-Service offerings as a world-class sustainable utility, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has recently won first place in the annual Dubai e-Government Quality Services Assessment for the sixth consecutive year. This achievement was announced based on the e-Services 2011/2012 assessment report by the Dubai e-Government.

    DEWA won the category of government bodies offering 'less than 50' e-Services. The report included assessments of DEWA's e-Services, which reflected positively on the solid and stable performance of DEWA's systems, e-Service connections, requirements and time of response.

  • AE: MoI Receives Best Government Interoperable Service Award

    As part of the 3rd GCC e-Government Award, the Ministry of Interior has received the Best Government Interoperable Service. H.H Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, handed the award to Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police during a ceremony, held on Monday at the Intercontinental Festival City Hotel in Dubai, to honor the winners of the 3rd GCC e-Government Award Conference and Exhibition.

    In his address at the award ceremony, Major General Al Raisi stated: "The Best Government Interoperable Service Award received by the UAE, represented by the Ministry of Interior, has been achieved thanks to the considerable support of our Higher Leadership. It also follows the higher leadership's wise instructions on the need for hard and distinguished work, to offer the best and finest services to the public, at all times and in an innovative manner, as per its leading smart government initiative," he said.

  • AU: MoneySmart website right on the money

    The Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s personal finance website, MoneySmart, has been named best Service Delivery website at the 2012 Excellence in eGovernment Awards.

    The awards recognise excellence, innovation and professionalism in the use of information and communications technology and nominations came from all spheres of government across Australia.

    Senior Manager of MoneySmart, Robert Drake said the award was a fantastic acknowledgement of ASIC’s unique approach to helping the community with money matters.

  • Bayern: Landkreis Cham ist "best of the best of the best" bei GIS-Systemen

    Zu den vielen Auszeichnungen des Landkreises Cham ist jetzt eine außergewöhnliche Anerkennung hinzugekommen. In San Diego (Kalifornien, USA) wurde er für seine innovative Pionierarbeit auf dem Gebiet der Geographischen Informationssysteme (GIS) mit dem ESRI-SAG-Award (Special Achievement in GIS) ausgezeichnet. Dieser Preis wird alljährlich US-amerikanischen und internationalen GIS-Anwendern für ihre herausragenden Leistungen verliehen. Bei der Verleihung sagte der Präsident des GIS-Weltmarktführers ESRI, Jack Dangermond, dass dieser Preis unter mehr als einer Million Anwendern stets nur den „best of the best of the best“ zuteil wird.

  • BH: Labor Market Regulatory Authority wins ARADO valuable Award

    The Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has won the e-government shield awards for the best interactive (FACEBOOK) social networking website in the Arab world organized by the Arab Organization for Administrative Development (ARADO) which is one of the Arab League's affiliated organizations.

    The organization has announced in association with the Internet Awards Academy in the Arab region the LMRA has won the e-government shield award in the category of official and governmental authorities in its third edition.

  • Brandenburg: Elektronischer Bürgerservice 'Maerker' siegt beim bundesweiten E-Government-Wettbewerb

    Der von Innenministerium und Brandenburgs Städte- und Gemeindebund initiierte elektronische Bür­ger­service ‚Maerker Brandenburg’ ist in diesem Jahr das bundesweit „innovativste eGovernment-Projekt für gesellschaf­tliche Lösungen“. Die Projektverantwortlichen wurden heute in Berlin für den Sieg von ‚Maerker’ in der entsprechenden Kategorie des 10. E-Government-Wettbe­werbs für Bundes-, Landes- und Kommu­nal­ver­waltungen geehrt, der von den IT-Firmen BearingPoint und Cisco ausgerichtet wird. Schirmherr des Wettbewerbs ist Bundesinnenminister Thomas de Maizière.

    Mit ‚Maerker’ können Bürger seit einem Jahr in den inzwischen 26 teilnehmenden brandenburgischen Kommunen per Mausklick auf Ordnungsmängel aufmerksam machen und deren Abstellung verfolgen. Über 2.300 Maerker-Hinweise gingen so bisher über das Internet bei den beteiligten Kommunen ein. Innenminister Rainer Speer beglückwünschte die Macher von Maerker zu ihrer Idee und deren engagierter Umsetzung: „Maerker zeigt, worauf es ankommt: Der Bürgerkontakt muss einfacher werden, Verwaltungsarbeit transparenter, aber auch verlässlicher und die Ergebnisse für jeden sichtbarer. Das alles bietet in erfreulichem Maße ‚Maerker’.“ Hier zeige die Kommune, dass sie sich um die örtlichen Ärgernisse der Bürger kümmere. Sie ist gleichzeitig unbürokratisch Vermittler, wenn einmal jemand anders zuständig ist.

  • Brandenburg: Erneuter Sieg bei bundesweitem E-Government-Wettbewerb

    Brandenburgs Innenministerium hat mit seiner Strategie zum Einsatz des IT-gestützten Dokumenten- und Vorgangsbearbeitungssystems EL.DOK BB im bundesweiten E-Government-Wettbewerb für Bundes-, Landes- und Kommunalverwaltungen einen ersten Platz belegt. Nach dem ersten Preis im Jahr 2007 konnte das Ministerium die neuerliche Auszeichnung am Freitag in Berlin in der Kategorie ‚IT-Strategie der Verwaltung' entgegennehmen. Der Wettbewerb steht unter der Schirmherrschaft von Bundesinnenminister Wolfgang Schäuble.

    Innenminister Jörg Schönbohm, der auch in der Landesregierung für E-Government zuständig ist, betonte: „E-Government ist derzeit die wichtigste Triebkraft für die Modernisierung der Verwaltung. Die erneute Auszeichnung unterstreicht, dass Brandenburg zu den Vorreitern der Verwaltungsmodernisierung und den Impulsgebern im E-Government in Deutschland zählt."

  • CA: City of Toronto website named one of the best in the world

    The City of Toronto's website has been named one of the best municipal websites in the world, according to the Digital Governance in Municipalities Worldwide report released yesterday.

    The City of Toronto's website ranked first in content and second overall behind Seoul, South Korea's municipal website. Toronto improved from tenth place to second in the 2009 report for digital governance. It was the third most usable municipal website in 2011, but did not make the top 10 cut in privacy and security or social engagement.

  • CA: Saskatchewan: Estonia can teach us a thing or two about e-government

    The strength of the Saskatchewan economy is exhilarating. The province provides a plentiful supply of minerals and agricultural products that are needed worldwide and fuel the economy. In the face of a reoccurring recession in Europe and the slow recovery in the U.S., some argue that the province should take advantage of its situation and implement innovative measures to maintain long-term prosperity. One such measure is a world-class e-government.

    E-government uses the Internet to deliver services for citizens more conveniently and efficiently. We choose to use e-services because they take only minutes to complete and save us a trip to a government office. Among the “popular” ones is online payment for parking tickets.

  • Delhi, the best e-governed state in India: survey

    Delhi emerged as the best e-governed state in 2007, followed by Goa and Chhattisgarh, even as Karnataka and Gujarat plummeted in e-governance initiatives, a Dataquest-IDC e-Gov survey says.

    "Delhi was voted the best e-governed state by its denizens for meeting nine out of 14 parameters set for the survey," Dataquest's chief editor Prasanto K Roy said in a statement in Bangalore on Friday evening.

  • e-public of Gujarat leads India

    Gujarat may have missed the information technology bus. However, it tops the list of states using technology for public services. Gujarat accounts for over 25% of all e-transactions recorded in India from January 1 to July 26 this year, according to 'eTaal', a central government web portal that disseminates e-transaction statistics. It receives transaction statistics from web-based applications periodically on near real-time basis.

    From land record registration to registering a new birth to getting an affidavit for income, Gujaratis do it all the e-way. Gujarat has recorded 8.80 crore e-transactions in the said period in the standard services provided under state government projects. Andhra Pradesh comes second with 7.87 crore e-transactions.

  • Estonia: Best E-Solutions Selected by Public

    November was Good e-Service Month and brought praise for 47 digital content solutions picked by Estonian computer users as the best online solutions in the country.

    All of the e-solutions will go on to compete at the Estonian round of the World Summit Award 2011 which recognizes creative use of digital media.

    Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts said the results showed that people have the greatest appreciation for services with practical benefits for them.

  • Estonia's e-government still one of the best in Europe

    The access in Estonia to the e-services and information offered by the state is among the best in the European Union, the European Commission's 2012 e-governments comparative study indicates, LETA/Delfi reports.

    The eGovernment Benchmark 2012 report surveyed 28,000 internet users across 32 countries.

    While generally EU's e-services users are more satisfied with Internet baking and commerce than pubic Internets services, for Estonia, the comparative study points out state portal eesti.ee where people have access to more than a hundred state e-services and sources of information.

  • Experts Judge Porirua City Council Website Best In New Zealand

    The quality of information and services offered on the Porirua City Council website has won the Council first place from all 85 Territorial Authorities in New Zealand.

    PCC won the Supreme Award on Monday (3 May) at the Association of Local Government Information Management (ALGIM) Web Symposium in Wellington. Council Website Manager Dale Hartle, who accepted the award, says since ALGIM began the survey in 2008, the PCC website has gone from strength to strength.

    "In 2008 we came 23rd and took on board the feedback that year to where we pulled ourselves up to third place last year. We were thrilled with that ranking and of course continued to fine tune the site. Even so I was flabbergasted when Porirua City Council was named the Supreme winner that words escaped me - and I'm a Distinguished Toastmaster. It's like winning the Oscars of the web world!"

  • Gaps Persist in Evaluation Systems for E-Government Initiatives

    For the past decade, technology has been touted as the key tool for transforming governments and the citizens they serve. But in their ambitious attempts to innovate, many e-government programs have failed due to financial troubles.

    In particular, the costs of telecommunication infrastructure and human capital have hampered e-government development, according to the 2010 United Nations E-Government Survey. The survey, released this year, notes that since 2008, governments have made strides to enhance online services, and transparency still stands as the bridge to public trust.

  • GCC urged to learn from Bahrain's ICT experience

    GCC countries should learn from advancements made by Bahrain in the field of information communication technology (ICT), said a top official.

    Transportation Minister Kamal Ahmed said Bahrain had taken great strides in making the latest in ICT available to people.

    He was speaking at the opening session of Meet ICT - an annual gathering of ICT professionals and experts from Bahrain and the region, which is being organised by Gulf Future Business in co-operation with Bahrain ICT Suppliers Trade Association (BISTA).
