At the next Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Telefónica will present its vision on the comprehensive management of smart services for cities.

At the booth Smart City Expo World Congress of Barcelona that Telefónica will occupy, a tour will be offered about the double vision of the smart cities through the prism of the city council and the citizen as active parties and beneficiaries of the city’s development.

Taking a look at the past and thinking about the future, it is clear that the evolution of cities is unstoppable thanks to the global process of urbanization of society and the digital revolution that is making us live in a hyperconnected world where the term smart city has a special relevance.

In this sense, the development of cities is making them become the engine and platform for the digital transformation of the economy and society.

“When you choose the best for your city, you improve your world”

In the new edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), Telefónica will recreate a city whose city hall shows for the first time the operation of the Smart City platform, a Big Data solution in the cloud, which concentrates service management and citizen attention . Thus, any local administration can centrally manage all the services it offers to citizens thanks to the Internet of Things, making the municipal space efficient, responsible and sustainable.

A city open to entrepreneurship and participation

The Smart City platform, based on the European standards of the Internet of the future (Fi Ware Project) offers a vision of the city and another by areas, in such a way that it receives, analyzes and monitors in real time the data generated by solutions built from an open ecosystem of different partners, many of them startups that are under the umbrella of Telefónica Open Future.

All the data provided by “the city” is opened so that entrepreneurs and developers can use it for different purposes, becoming a great laboratory for promoting entrepreneurship. In addition, the platform integrates an open data portal that makes the data managed by the local administration available to society so that any citizen or company can analyze, reuse and redistribute this data to generate new services and wealth through the use resource smart.

City council and citizen

Telefónica offers two different visions of a smart city:

  • City Hall Vision as responsible for the operation of municipal services.
  • Citizen’s vision as beneficiary and active subject.

To ensure that a town hall is efficient, the implementation of telemetry and remote management of services is essential, since, in this way, the costs of, for example, public lighting can be reduced by up to 25% with smartlighting solutions. , as well as in water consumption, waste management among others.

And, in an environment where citizens seek a digital and agile relationship with the administration, the Smart City platform acts as a thermometer of government measures and facilitates communication with citizens, establishing electronic administration and citizen participation as a basis. .

In short, Telefónica wants to consolidate a sustainable growth model that provides citizens with intelligent services and a development model in which innovation is configured as the backbone to reach the highest levels of competitiveness in the economy.
