OASIS, the international open standards consortium, joins with the World Bank Group’s Global Information and Communication Technologies Department to invite representatives from the public and private sectors to participate in an eGovernment Workshop on 17 April in Washington, D.C. The workshop will explore the significance of open standards for efficient, citizen-centric and transformational government. Issues surrounding public financial management, e-procurement, security, and interoperability frameworks will be discussed.

The ranks of governments adopting the OpenDocument Format (ODF) continued to grow, as did the depth and range of ODF applications, according to the annual report published by the ODF Alliance.
Erst mit diesem Schritt der ISO kann der Standardisierungsprozess als abgeschlossen angesehen werden. Bereits im Mai 2005 war das OpenDocument-Format (ODF) unter der Nummer 26300 als ISO/IEC-Standard anerkannt worden. Die jetzt erfolgte Publikation war lediglich Formsache.

Das Format wurde von OpenOffice entwickelt und beruht auf dem ursprünglichen Dateiformat von OpenOffice/StarOffice. Es wurde der Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) übergeben und von dieser im Mai 2005 offiziell anerkannt. Die OASIS hat in OpenDocument auf der Basis des Dateiformats für OpenOffice Definitionen festgelegt, mit der sich Dateien aus Officepaketen zwischen unterschiedlichen Softwaresystemen und Plattformen problemlos austauschen lassen sollen.
