RedDot CMS to Automate Daily Web Site Management and Drive Online E-Government Initiatives

RedDot Solutions, a leading provider of enterprise content management solutions, today announced that the City of Fairfield, California, has selected the RedDot Content Management Server (CMS) to manage and maintain content for their Web site. RedDot's CMS will enable employees to easily manage, maintain and publish content, and serve as a foundation to drive the City's e-government initiatives as well.

"It is a priority for us to provide constituents and other visitors with up-to-date information that is tailored to their needs," said Shakeel Ajam, Web Architect for City of Fairfield. "RedDot appealed to us because the system encompasses all the tools and features necessary to increase the efficiency of keeping our site current, while reducing long-term support costs, maintaining quality control and security, all at the same time. RedDot's sophisticated functionality will also play a key role to the Web site redesign that is in the next phase of the e-government process which will enable our visitors to conduct business electronically."

Currently, the City of Fairfield uses a manual system to manage content on the Web site. Changes to the site are requested, coded, tested, approved and posted to the "live" site manually. The process can be labor intensive and time consuming. Upon implementing RedDot CMS the City's web team will be able to build "fill in the blanks" templates for department use, streamline workflow, and increasing efficiency that will liberate skilled IT staff for more complex tasks and other business initiatives.

The staff at City of Fairfield spent several months researching and reviewing content management systems prior to recommending the product for City Council approval. The Web team consisting of employees from the city manager's office and information technology looked at six products including Microsoft's content management server. The Web Team working with a city-wide committee of departmental representatives were very excited about the features of RedDot. According to Nancy Huston, Assistant City Manager, "Our committee wanted a content management system that allowed each department to easily update or replace content information, and still allow creativity on those pages so that each department had a real vested interest in maintaining fresh and interesting web pages."

RedDot was selected for its out-of-the-box functionality that did not require any additional software installations, and because features such as full deletion of expired content are offered.

In June 2002, the City's web page was recognized by the League of California Cities' Elected Officials Technology Committee as an example of "Best Practices for the Virtual City Hall." According to Laura Peabody, Chief Information Officer, The City of Fairfield was honored for creating community identity by using a standard page appearance throughout the Web site. While planning the next-generation site, staff looked for ways to streamline procedures without sacrificing the "Best Practices" standards. RedDot's CMS will enable the City to maintain these standards by enabling various departments at the City to enter fresh content without jeopardizing design consistency and identity.

"RedDot appreciates the high standards that the City of Fairfield maintains for its online presence," said Detlef Kamps, president of RedDot Solutions. "RedDot's system is easy enough for anyone on the staff to learn and adopt quickly, enabling rapid turn-around time for publishing information. RedDot's CMS will not only manage content for the City, it will also streamline their internal work procedures."
