Government agencies will have access to a catalogue of technical information under a new program aimed at easing data and infrastructure sharing between government organisations.

Dubbed Reuse-IT, the project is being steered by the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) with the aim of integrating government to government back office processes. "Reuse-IT aims to identify technical schema that can be readily and practically applied across agencies, assisting collaboration efforts to design and implement government services," a call for consultancy proposals issued by AGIMO says.

Information gathered by the study will be put to work in a number of areas, including the design of e-government initiatives, a reduction in the duplication of effort across agencies, and identifying the most valuable potential cross agency initiatives.

The project is expected to commence around April 14, and the appointed consultants will expected to report in fairly short order, with a final report due by the end of the financial year.

The report will also be provided to the Australian Government Chief Information Officers Committee (CIOC).
