The federal authorities have set aside US$7.1 million over the next three years to fund a range of e-healthcare pilot initiatives.

Tony Abbott, Minister for Health and Ageing, has unveiled plans to spend A$9 million over the next three years on the establishment of an authority to drive forward e-health initiatives. A national e-health transition authority will help the states and the federal governments work together to allow health records to be accessed electronically from anywhere in Australia.

Abbott said that the states and territories would contribute a further A$9 million to the project.
