Federal government agencies were unable to report any efficiency savings derived from their use of the internet because they had not evaluated services, an audit has found.

The Australian National Audit Office has concluded that agencies' methods were inadequate to assess whether their internet-delivered services and programs were efficient and effective. The audit also found that agencies had paid widely varying amounts of money to set up websites, with no explanation for those varying costs.

In a report tabled today, the Audit Office recommends agencies use cost-benefit analyses to support proposals for online services, evaluate webIsites, and integrate the measurement of website performance with the measurement of service delivery.
