Queensland’s ICT reforms were highlighted earlier by the Minister for Technology Mr Ian Walker.
As the former South Australian GCIO, Mr Mills helped build the state’s ICT capability. This involved fast-tracking on-line services, and laying the foundations for open government. This expertise plays a pivotal role, supporting future reforms in Queensland.
Oversight for these reforms is led by the Queensland Department of Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts. Previously, Queensland’s GCIO role was held by Mr Peter Grant.
According to Queensland’s Director-General, Mr Andrew Garner, Mr Mills’ experience will deliver leadership for a new team, as the state moves forward on its revitalised ICT strategy.
Among his contributions, Mr Mills helped streamline information management and open data initiatives in South Australia. An open data approach, together with improving frontline services, underscores a successful ICT Strategy during 2013-2017.
Similarly, Queensland’s ICT focuses is to transform public services, especially a cost-effective use of technology across government. These reforms favour focused customer service delivery, an open government platform, and industry engagement.
In an official statement, Mr Mills noted that he is looking forward to working with the Queensland government. “I’m happy to have this role and I am enthusiastic to be working in Queensland.”
Mr Mills brings extensive experience across the state and Australian government, mostly in senior management roles. Bulk of his career is in management roles, predominantly information management, information technology and telecommunications.
