The government will extend the use of online forms to make the process of registering imports and transhipments easier.

The government will develop a 'Single Windows Entry' system that provides e-forms for importers and exporters. "If we want to be a logistics hub, we must address our bottlenecks through using IT," said Wilaiporn Liwgasemsan, Deputy Secretary General of the Office of the National Economic and Society Development Board. "We plan to work with the ICT Ministry and other related ministries to develop the system."

The initiative will be rolled-out over the next three years, and will involve a thorough reengineering of work processes and reform of government regulation.

According to Dr Surapong Suebwonglee, Thailand's ICT Minister, the easing of the administrative burden on the logistics industry was firmly part of Thailand's e-government initiative: "The logistics hub is a big project and it needs a single platform and infrastructure to connect various parties, including the Transport Ministry, the Customs Department and the Finance Ministry," Dr Surapong said.

Newly appointed ICT Permanent Secretary Kraisorn Pornsutee will oversee it on behalf of the ICT Ministry.

"RFID tags will help exporters track and trace their products quickly," said the Minister. The ICT Ministry will shortly begin work with other governments in the region to set up standards for RFID tags.
