The Digital Economy and Society Ministry aims to build up a nationwide force of 1,000 digital literacy trainers within six months.
Ajarin Pattanapanchai, the new permanent secretary at the ministry, said the trainers would be destined for 24,700 communities or villages by April next year. They would teach people the basics of digital literacy, imparting know-how that can be put to use in local communities, she said.
Ultimately, someone in each community would be trained in order spread computer literacy.
With this training, people will be able to distribute their goods under the One Tambon, One Product scheme via online channels. Further, the increased knowledge of technology would boost participants’ quality of life, Ajarin said.
She said the ministry would lay down Internet connections under the Pracha Rat project, reaching 24,700 communities by the end of this year. This would provide the so-called last mile of digital service to people throughout the country.
The ministry will support efforts by the Electronic Government Agency (EGA) to set up a national scheme on Big Data. This would enable the government to integrate information between government agencies and this can be shared.
The move would help reduce the amount of paper documents required for government transactions, including applications for driver’s licences.
Government agencies now provide around 39 government e-services for which copies of Thai ID card are not required.
The government in the near future will bring out a law to support government e-services and “unplug the barriers to the digital transformation era”.
Ajarin said that under the government’s plans to develop a national Big Data plan, the service would be available to the public within a year.
“We have an urgent policy under the Pracha Rat project to leverage and drive the digital economy in the country and reduce the gap between people in urban and rural areas in various areas such as e-commerce, e-health, e-education and e-government,” said Ajarin.
