The Space Affairs Bureau, in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and Kasetsart University, agreed to pilot the project of satellite data application to combine the size of paddy field and vegetation index to further the analysis of the rice growth and development.
Also, the SMMS will evaluate potential paddy for off-season rice and be able to predict the rice stock launched into the market more precisely.
The SMMS is an earth remote sensing satellite jointly invested and manufactured by China and Thailand to regulate and promote the use of SMMS data among the Member States of Asia Pacific Space Cooperation Organisation for education and research cooperation. The SMMS carries a low-resolution Charge Coupled Device (CCD) camera and an experimental telecommunications system. The Ka-band payload for installation in SMMS is fully responsible by Thailand’s MICT under supervision of Kasetsart University.
