An Internet Web site offering one-stop service from 15 private-sector and government bodies will be launched in Phuket in September, making the province the first in Thailand to offer such a service.

The initiative, known as "One Click Finish All: One Stop Services", is being designed by the Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA).

When operational the website will give access to a number of public services. People should be able to pay utility bills, and get information about health and education services, including details about the region's universities.

Patients' medical histories will also be included, allowing doctors to access files more speedily.

The Immigration Department is taking part in the project, allowing tourists and expatriates to contact the department through the Internet.

The Phuket site will be the first of many such projects as the government intends to expand the service to cover the whole country as part of its aim to "enter the era of e-government".

Details of the project were announced and agreements between departments signed at a conference chaired by Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and acting ICT Minister Prof Suchai Charoenratanakul at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, Karon, on July 21.
