New smart city to serve as a test site for innovative technology

Toyota Group employees have been welcomed to a new mini city recently launched by the automotive manufacturer that acts as a real-world test course for innovative technology.

The city, called Toyota Woven City, was developed alongside Woven by Toyota, Inc. (WbyT) and officially launched in late September, two years after it was first unveiled.

The place was designed as a city where researchers, residents, and businesses can test and develop new technologies in real-world conditions.

Participants are divided into two profiles, called Inventors and Weavers.

Toyota employees and their families belong to the Weavers cohort, who will experience the products tested in the smart city and provide feedback.

"Since September 2025, several Toyota Group employees and their families have begun living in Woven City as the first Weavers, with Phase 1 ultimately expected to accommodate about 300 residents," Toyota's media release read.

Inventors, on the other hand, include enterprises, start-ups, entrepreneurs, research institutions, and other innovators that are developing and testing products and services in Woven City.

Among the technology being tested by Inventors in the smart city is personal mobility vehicles from Toyota, which will deliver them through compact, three-wheeled electric vehicles.

"What we will spark here at Woven City is Kakezan ('multiplication')! No single company can create meaningful Kakezan on its own; it takes at least two," said Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation and Master Weaver of Woven City, during the launch event last month.

"So let's gather our efforts, and with them our smiles. With plenty of smiles, doesn't it feel like we really can weave a brighter future together?"
