Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan and Ministry of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia held the "Japan-Indonesia Construction Vice-Ministerial Meeting" online on February 10.

The two ministries shared the status of their efforts in the areas of smart cities, infrastructure quality management, and disaster prevention. The Indonesian counterpart expressed its policy to realize smart cities in the new capital city in line with the capital relocation plan. The Japanese side will continue to monitor developments with a view to Japanese companies' participation in the relocation plan.

MLIT was represented by Mr. Mikio Yoshioka, Vice Minister for Engineering Affairs and Mr. Masafumi Yokota, Deputy Minister for International Projects. The Ministry of Public Works and Housing was represented by Mr. Mohammad Fatah, Secretary General.

In an exchange of opinions related to smart cities, Indonesia explained its plan to relocate its capital city. In January, the Indonesian parliament passed a bill of the capital relocation. At the meeting, MLIT promoted the assistance framework "Smart JAMP" for ASEAN developing infrastructure.

Japan also explained the institutional background that has enabled the development of high-quality infrastructure. MLIT explained the outline of electronic systems such as database of construction performance information, which allows visualization of the performance of contractors, and the structure of the comprehensive evaluation bidding system. It also pointed out the necessity to eliminate dumping and to continuously secure appropriate profits for contractors. In the area of disaster prevention, Indonesia gave an overview of its flood control plan. Questions were raised to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) on measures to prevent sedimentation in dams.
