More than 39 000 Personal Health Files (Dossier Médical Personnel - DMP, in French) - the French electronic health records - have been created in the 10 months following country-wide deployment in December 2010, based on data presented by the Agency for Shared Health Information Systems (ASIP Santé, in French).

According to information provided by ASIP Santé on the occasion of the seventh National Industry Day held on 18 October 2011, 39 310 DMPs have been created since 16 December 2010. This amount has more than doubled since the last figures were released in early July 2011. Data shows an increase in DMP deployment from the end of August: the weekly rate of creation remains above 1 600, and peaked at over 2 400 in late September.

Although the DMP-compatible software packages approved by ASIP Santé remain the main source of creation, the proportion of DMPs created using the DMP website has also increased significantly.

As was the case in July 2011, most DMPs were created in the four pilot regions (Alsace, Aquitaine, Franche-Comté and Picardy), although overall their percentage contribution fell by 5.4 points to 87.3 %, according to an intermediate count carried out on 25 September. This drop primarily concerns Alsace (-10 points to 33.5 %) and to a lesser extent Franche-Comté (-2: 8 %). In contrast, Aquitaine (+4: 18.6 %) and Picardy (+2.5: 27.1 %) showed a rise.

Among other regions, Rhône-Alpes appears to have made the most headway, both in terms of overall DMPs (735) and DMP creation in health institutions (approx. 25 %). The only regions that approached or exceeded 500 DMPs (created mostly by private health professionals) were Centre, Champagne- Ardenne, Pays de la Loire and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

At national level, DMP creation is equally divided among health institutions and health professionals; however, private health professionals provide the majority (53.6 %) of the documents supplied to the DMP.

On 17 October, ASIP Santé determined that 68 271 documents contained in 16 351 DMPs "with at least one document" made up 41.6 % of the files created. Almost all had been supplied by a DMP-compatible software; the remainder had been supplied via the DMP website, which is more commonly used for this purpose by patients rather than by doctors.

During this 10-month period, 11 399 appointments equally distributed among health professionals and patients were recorded. However, only 3 511 files (8.9 %) had undergone "at least one patient access", while 14 106 (35.9 %) are connected to "an internet patient account".
