The French National health insurance fund ('Caisse nationale de l'assurance maladie') has launched 'Ameli-santé', a portal providing the public with information on health situations and on the most common diseases, their prevention and/or their management.

The website features 16 health themes (e.g. asthma, acute bronchitis, emergency contraception, diabetes, mumps, etc) gathering useful information to better understand diseases and to live with them day to day. The information includes: disease/health theme description; symptoms and possible complications; the prevention tips proposed by the health insurance.

In order to access more personalised information, the portal makes it possible to insert one's age and sex, so as to access the relevant prevention tips automatically.

In addition, 'Ameli-santé' provides direct access to 'Ameli-direct', which helps patients find the contact details and the fees of healthcare providers, based on specific care and geographic criteria. Ameli-direct is also managed and promoted by the national health insurance fund.
