Transforming Government since 2001
So long to the old faithful UKOnline.gov.uk website, the one-stop web shop connecting UK Government and citizens. It's been switched off this morning.

As from today, UK citizens wanting Governement information will be re-directed to www.direct.gov.uk. The forthcoming switch off has been highlighted to UKOnline users recently (see below). It's been part of the plan to switch off UKOnline, one month after the 'switch on' of www.direct.gov.uk onto its own domain (28 April). It's good to see this project stick firmly to schedule. PublicTechnology has heard that the switchover was given the green light by Douglas Alexander last Friday, once he had been persuaded the Directgov's usership, site traffic and customer datisfaction key performance indicators were all on target.

Users will be asked to bookmark Directgov instead of UKOnline as of today, and there will be automatic re-directs in place to take any UKOnline page requests to www.direct.gov.uk.
