Transforming Government since 2001
Three UK county police forces - Bedfordshire Police , Cambridgeshire Constabulary and Hertfordshire Constabulary - have agreed to collaborate on shared services in hope to achieve annual cost savings of £20 million (US$32.7 million) by 2015.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire has a population of 617,000, 807,000, and 1.1 million respectively.

This announcement follows a successful merger early last year when the forces saved £2 million (US$3.3 million) by joining their forensic, armed response and major crime units.

This time, they will look for ways to share functions including ICT, financial services, human resources, crime recording, professional standards, training and vehicle management.

According to Olly Martins, Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, shared services optimises resources so that the force is better placed financially and operationally to fight crime and protect their frontline services.

Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd (pictured) added that the move is critical at a time when all government departments are facing financial challenges.

Lloyd said that by optimising centralised operations, it will free up resources for frontline neighbourhood policing in each of the county’s 10 boroughs and districts.
