While the report, Better with less: delivering local public services in the digital age, does highlight a number of individual instances of good practice, it found that overall levels of implementation across the 30 authorities it spoke to were ‘patchy’ and that few authorities could demonstrate good practice across all their digital activities.
Socitm has defined a series of principles for local public service organisations looking to embrace digital, covering customer experience, engagement, ways of working, service redesign and demand management.
The report said: “Tellingly, this cohort rate their commitment to digital ahead of their implementation of it and generally, organisations featured in the report exemplify good practice in just one or two specific aspects of digital delivery.”
