The Island Free School has announced how its £500,000 ICT budget will be spent.

The Ventnor school has appointed Centerprise International, of Hampshire, to deliver the school’s ICT Provision.

Group member Steve Jones, who led the procurement process, said: "The Centerprise bid stood head and shoulders above the competition in its vision and innovation.

"We are genuinely excited at the possibilities this technology offers our students. There cannot be many schools in the country to compare with the resources we will offer."

Central to the school’s ICT resources will be the use of a music package, which allows students to practice, record and perform music via the internet, individually and in groups.

Students will be able to design and construct their own robots using software.

They can create their own weather forecasts at the school weather station, which can then be broadcast, along with musical creations, on the school radio station.

PE students will be able to analyse each other’s performance using the school’s movement analysis equipment and access thousands of texts, with accompanying performance clips via e-readers.

Artists can develop interactive portfolios on one of the school iMac suites.

Headmaster Steph Boyd said: "The innovation and creativity that has gone into the design of our ICT facilities matches our vision perfectly."

The school opens next September for Year 7 pupils. The deadline for applications is December 2.
