Cost-saving measures to share council services took a step closer this week after South Bucks District Council gave the project the green light.

A business case to pool resources on licensing, community safety and building control was put forward by a joint committee from SBDC and Chiltern District Council in April.

And with CDC agreeing the plan at a full council meeting last week, its South Bucks counterparts did the same on Tuesday, paving the way for the new joint services to begin.

The details of the scheme have not yet been finalised, and it has also not been agreed which council will host the merged departments.

But officials hope the shared service arrangement will be up and running by April next year.

The changes have been proposed in line with SBDC’s aim to "deliver cost effective services that are driven by customer and community needs."

CDC already shares major services with other councils, with refuse collection being run in conjunction with Wycombe District Council from this summer.
