Transforming Government since 2001
Shared services across Forest Heath District and St Edmundsbury Borough councils have announced savings £1m higher than originally expected.

The two councils set up a Shared Services Steering Group (SSSG) in December 2009 to oversee the restructure of almost every service. Since 2012, the two councils have also been sharing a chief executive and a leadership team.

In its final meeting, the group reported savings of £3.5m year on year.

St Edmundsbury cabinet member, David Ray, said: ‘As councillors we will be dealing with terrific budgetary challenges for the foreseeable future. Both councils have given such strong support to the shared services process that we have been able to make some really significant savings and we can be proud of what councillors and staff have achieved together.’
