A London borough council has set up a new internet service for planning applications

The disgruntled of Barking and Dagenham can now check up on the planning applications they find objectionable through a new web service provided by the council. The service allows residents of the London borough to make planning and building control applications as well as submitting their objections online. To look at the planning application of a particular property, website visitors simply type its location into a search engine. It provides information such as: the exact location of the planning proposal; a description of the application; the date the council began processing it; and the name of the case officer dealing with the application.

People wishing to apply for planning permission and building approval are able to download the relevant application forms from the website.

Executive member for e-government, councillor Liam Smith, said: "Allowing residents to view planning applications online is the first step to developing and improving electronic access to planning information. We will be working hard to develop this system so that all communication around planning applications is a lot quicker and easier for our residents."
