The award, part of a series recognising the best in e-government innovation, was in the category; Best service - "Government to Citizen", for Hounslow's innovative use of webcasting to broadcast their council events over the internet. In attendance to receive the accolade were Bob Wearing, head of Members Services and Paul Osborne, ICT Business Analyst from Hounslow Borough Council and Keith Young, Chief Executive for UK Council Ltd, who provide Hounslow with their webcasting services and equipment.
After receiving the award, Bob Wearing said: "I am delighted that Hounslow's ongoing contribution to making local government more accessible to the general public, through the use of webcasting, has been recognised in the form of this award.
Hounslow was the first council in the country to webcast a meeting and since then we have webcast local elections and other key council meetings including Scrutiny Panels. We will be continuing this work to encourage future public awareness of local government issues."
