Transforming Government since 2001
The UK government confirmed last week that E36m (£26m) has been awarded to 82 projects pioneering innovative approaches to delivering e-government through partnerships between local authorities. Major winners include the Worcester Partnership, which receives E900,00 (£650,000) to create a web portal, e-shop and service centres; an E830,000 (£600,000) bid by the Electronic Gloucestershire Group to develop a single contact centre for seven partner councils and shared IT systems to improve co-ordination of services; the North London Strategic Alliance, with around 30 partners, which receives E690,000 (£500,000) for a series of projects involving crime reduction and partnership administration and the West Yorkshire Partnership, led by Kirklees Council, which was awarded E690,000 (£500,000) to develop a common approach and systems for procurement to help trading with local businesses.

The funding forms the second instalment of E104m (£75m) earmarked for local and regional partnerships under the E484m (£350m) programme for local e-government.

"Every local authority in England is now participating in at least one e-government partnership", commented Local Government Minister Chris Leslie.

"These partnerships show that working together can benefit everyone - the partners and the communities they serve."
