Transforming Government since 2001
Nearly all government and public service websites are riddled with errors and broken links, according to research published by Business2www. The company used its own automated testing software to compare the functionality of 55 leading government sites, and found that only one local government site localegov.gov.uk was error-free.

All sites were tested for errors, site warnings, server response speed and download speed. Over half of these sites had more than 100 errors; ten had over 500.

The worst site overall was E-Venturing, with HM Treasury coming a close second with a total 6,000 errors.

The Equal Opportunities Commission, Local E-Government and the Child Support Agency on the other hand, were described as "extremely impressive" in the report.

"Without apology, the primary purpose of these league tables is to assist the marketing of a unique automated testing system, which enables webmasters, IT teams and external website suppliers to ensure that the website is functionally capable of delivering the customer access, satisfaction and interest", says the report.
