Coming to its e-government target, the UK government is looking at nVision 2005. It is a forum aimed at easing the implementation of citizen centred electronic services by local authorities. nVision recognises 2005 as a key milestone for electronic service delivery and spans all local authority services from Trading Standards, Environmental Health to Planning and Land Charges, according to ukonline.gov.uk.
What are the objectives of nVision 2005? First, it is expected to help create a coalition of like minded partners and bring local government together with system suppliers, central government, individuals and other organisations for mutual benefit.
It would also create a network of organisations that share common values and objectives. To enable clearer understanding of the requirements of technology, e-government targets and national initiatives.
nVision 2005 will focus mainly on delivering services anywhere, anytime to make life better for people; maximising the potential of government information assets through latest technology; supporting local authorities in meeting e-government challenges; facilitating the latest integration technologies and IT architecture.
With best practices in mind, nVision will use mechanisms including the Internet, newsletters, seminars and discussion groups as resources to help local authorities share and disseminate information.
In the end, it is aimed at delivering smarter services. It will use national e-government initiatives such as the National Land Information Service (NLIS) and the National Land & Property Gazetteer (NLPG) as examples. nVision2005 is also using the competencies of its founding organisations CAPS Solutions and ESRI (UK), which are leading suppliers of local government solutions in the UK and Ireland.
