Downing Street responds to 'piecemeal' criticism
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has published a national strategy for local e-government. The move follows concerns that a common framework and support from central government is key to offering services that make a real difference to citizens.
It also comes after criticism by analyst IDC that the UK's piecemeal approach is stalling efforts to get central and local government services online.
Prime Minister Tony Blair recently admitted that "too many services live in the technological dark ages".
