Members of the mission led by government authorities and Itaipu visited the Smart City Infrastructure Control Center and the facilities of Kepco (Korea Electric Power Corporation) with the aim of exploring the real-world application of Smart City infrastructure for future investment opportunities in Paraguay.
The delegation included the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez; the Vice Minister of Energy, Mauricio Bejarano; the Paraguayan General Director, Justo Zacarías Irún; the General Director of Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Aníbal Giménez; the Deputy Director of the Task Paraguay Center, José Kim; the Electric Mobility Advisor, Luis López Lafuente; the Financial Director, Rafael Lara; and the Executive Director of the Itaipu Technology Park (PTI-PY), Carlos Mercado.
Kepco is South Korea’s leading state-owned electric company, responsible for generating and commercializing electricity in Asia. During their tour, the Paraguayan delegation observed how Kepco implements an integrated system that includes smart monitoring, loss control, energy theft prediction, billing, prepayment, and electronic payments, all on a unified platform.
The delegation also visited the Smart Meter Production Factory Nuriflex in South Korea, where they were received by the company’s president, Naju Jeollanamdo.
It is worth mentioning that Nuriflex officially announced the launch of a factory in Paraguay following investment attraction meetings conducted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The purpose of the visit to the headquarters was to learn about the various products and the potential for expanding production in Paraguay for distribution in the regional market.
This is one of the manufacturing and assembly industries not only for meters but also for an entire line of products such as single-phase meters, three-phase meters, industrial meters, data concentrator units (DCUs), public lighting, communication modules (modems), MDM, engineering, IT, and software.
The first stage of Nuriflex’s investment process in Paraguay has already been executed. The installation of an AMI intelligent meter assembly plant in Mariano Roque Alonso marked the beginning of an investment and development process for new technologies and new markets in our country.
During the tour of the company’s headquarters in the Asian country, the authorities witnessed the manufacturing process and saw firsthand the economic, social, and technological industrial advances. According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, this will open up the possibility of developing new technology made in Paraguay for export to the Mercosur region and Latin America.
