A new PIN change procedure has recently been introduced on the eSignature portal to enable users to deal with lost or forgotten PINs in a user-friendly manner.

To change a lost or forgotten PIN, a user is required to go to the 'My Data' section of the eSignature portal and select the 'PIN Change' option. A PIN change confirmation request is then delivered to the email address specified by the user when signing up for an eSignature, thus allowing the creation of a new PIN.

It is necessary to enter a PIN when signing documents with a virtual eSignature on the portal. When wishing to use an eSignature for the first time, a person has to create a unique eight-character PIN known only by the person setting it up. Since the Latvia State Radio and Television Centre (LVRTC) does not receive a copy of the PIN created and does not store it, the PIN can only be changed by the user of the eSignature portal.

Along with the PIN change optimisation, the portal has also improved the change of email addresses registered on it. This can also be performed via 'My Data' by selecting the 'Change E-mail' option and entering the PIN.

In the case where both the PIN and the access information to the email account registered with the portal are forgotten, a user is still required, for security reasons, to visit the nearest virtual eSignature customer service centre and submit a request for the annulment of the active membership agreement.

Prior to this new procedure, a person with a lost or forgotten PIN had to go to the nearest eSignature customer service centre and submit a request for the annulment of the active membership agreement.

Background information:

The Latvian eSignature (eParaksts, in Latvian) enables a user to access many eGovernment services provided by Latvian authorities. A list of these services and entities is available in English at https://www.eparaksts.lv/en/partners/eparaksts-for-frequent-use.
