Government has sourced funding from the African Development Bank-ADB for the implementation of the Mobile Health programme.

The programme is aimed at harnessing the use of mobile phones to disseminate information on health services.

M- Health Focal Point for Zambia, Maximillian Bweupe says the programme will greatly enhance the delivery of health services as close to the family as possible.

Dr. Bweupe who could however not disclose the amount of money involved said, contractual procedures are yet to be concluded.

He told ZNBC news in Geneva, Switzerland that the ministry of Health is working with ZICTA to ensure the Mobile Health programme is a reality.

Dr. Bweupe says currently technocrats are working at translating the programme into a practical agenda.

He said messages on cervical cancer screening services and prevention will be top priority under the Mobile Health programme.

And speaking at a group dinner hosted by ZICTA last night, Charge de Affaires at the Zambian mission in Geneva, Emmanuel Makasa says apart from the use of mobile phones, Zambia needs to have a Radio station to specifically broadcast issues of health.

Dr Makasa says the mission in Geneva is ready to help lobby for finance from cooperating partners for setting up of such a radio station.

The dinner was hosted on the sidelines of the 2015 World Summit on the Information Society –WSIS forum which officially opens in Geneva tomorrow.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Transport Charles Sipanje is leading a team of Experts from ZICTA that participating at the forum.
