There is a lot the people and government of St. Kitts and Nevis can adopt from Taiwan when it comes to e-government policies.

Theodore Browne, Assistant Comptroller of Customs and Deswert Douglas Grade 4 Customs Officer, recently returned to the Federation from an e-government workshop in Taiwan.

One of the important aspects of Taiwan’s e-government system that Browne would like to see implemented in St. Kitts and Nevis is some form of computer training for senior citizens. Instead of holding classes at specific venues, Taiwan’s model of taking the training to the communities should be emulated, Browne said.

Officer Douglas said the local government has been making stride in enhancing its e-government platform with the introduction of ASYCUDA, the automated Customs data system, and the recent launch of the government’s e-portal. Douglas said with e-government providing immediate public access to government agencies and information, it will be beneficial to the entire society.
