Minister of Transport Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed chaired today the Kingdom’s delegation at the GCC Ministerial Committee for eGovernment in Riyadh in the presence of the General Secretary to the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdulatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

The Saudi Minister of Communication and Information Technology Eng. Mohammed Jameel bin Ahmed Mulla opened the session with a keynote in which he stressed the importance of the Ministerial Committee for eGovernment meeting for GCC governments, and the opportunities this committee presents in researching current eGovernment programs and future opportunities for cooperation to further benefit the countries and people of the GCC.

This meeting comes after the GCC Council approved the formation of the committee in its 18th meeting in Abu Dhabi. The Ministerial Committee for eGovernment will overlook activities of eGovernments, place well defined standards and policies, coordinating cooperation between the national projects of the eGovernment to achieve full integration between GCC countries as well as coordinating purchasing of electronic systems and programs.

Topics discussed during the meeting covered the development of current eGovernment programs within the GCC and developing eGovernment services. The committee also discussed shared areas of cooperation between member countries including the organizational structure of the executive committee of the eGovernment, the committee’s achievements during previous meetings, and the developments regarding the eGovernment Forum, Expo and Prize held annually. The committee also agreed to hold an executive committee meeting next April in Qatar.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Executive of eGoverment Mohammed Ali AlQaed, the Director of Standards and Procedures Dr. Zakariya Al Khaja, and the Manager of the Minister of Transportation’s office Salah Johar.
