Union Minister for Ministry of labour, Immigration and Population Thein Swe said that a policy has already drawn for issuing unique ID numbers without discrimination between citizens or non-citizens.

“After observing with over 40 companies, our ministry has laid down a policy. Rules are being drawn and we have formed township level committees in respective States/ Regions for implementing of the policy,” said Thein Swe, Union Minister for Ministry of labour, Immigration and Population.

He claimed so after a workshop on” job opportunities, minimum wages, transformation of labour market” held at the Thingaha Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on September 20.

“Amongst the current government’s 12-economic objectives, implementation of e-government is included. Unique ID numbers is for everyone living in this country. Citizens or non-citizens will be given a number. If you look at neighbouring China, India or Japan, this system is being practiced”, he continued.

“The Ministry since last year has made observations to implement and issue Unique ID numbers for everyone living in this country despite their citizenship status. We conducted researches. We also observed India where this kind of system is being practiced. We observed with over 40 companies and after, our ministry has laid down the policy. Rules are being drawn and township level committees in respective States/ Regions for implementing of the policy have been formed. After that, when the government approves, we will go ahead according to our policy. For citizens, we will issue electronic ID cards”, said Union Minister Thein Swe.
