The projected with 1,215-hectare IT city, proposed to be named as Cyber City where IT service providing companies will be grouped for joint undertaking, will be built at a location of 32 kilometers southeast of Mandalay and will be much larger than the existing Myanmar Info-Tech, formerly known as the Myanmar Information and Communication Technology (MICT) Park, in Yangon and the Yadanarpon Cyber Corporation (YCC) in Mandalay, the news journal said.
On completion of the cyber city, Mandalay's YCC will move there for continuing operation, the corporation chief was quoted as saying.
Myanmar's ICT sector has been making progress since the country introduced e-education system in early 2001 with two ICT parks in Yangon and Mandalay having been set up in the two following years to provide ICT services in the country.
Besides, work is well underway to systematically implement the tasks under e-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Framework Agreement (AFA) which calls for development of information infrastructure, emergence of e-commerce and e- government systems, lifting of restriction on ICT commodities, services and investment and increasing of them, and building of ICT capacity to create an e-society after reducing the digital divide among the regional members.
