Today the Government of Belize and Microsoft signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at helping the government to meet its National Digital Transformation Goals. Microsoft will help to address problems with government inefficiency and corruption by incorporating more advanced technology. Government plans to integrate cloud storage and computing, as well as train Public Officers to properly use the new technology. Representatives from both the GOB and Microsoft gave presentations about the soon to be improved government systems...

Mike Singh, Chief Tech Officer - Office of the PM:

"The Government of Belize has traditionally been a client of Microsoft. Most of our systems are built on Microsoft technology at the application and server level and the user level all of government uses Microsoft products for their day to day work. That relationship however has traditionally been fragmented with very little collaboration in terms of procurement and the use of technology. So it was about 5 months ago that we approach Microsoft to relook at our relationship where we ask that government be look at as an enterprise. We spoke about our vision for e-governance and describe to them the design of our journey and we ask for their help in reaching these goals. What we found out is that the enterprise approach which consolidates our relationship into a single agreement brought us not only economy as a scale, but also access to number of their resources and tools to help us reach those goals."

"So we invited Microsoft to visit which was done in April of this year during which conducted a joint workshop with key government agencies responsible for the imperatives that I described about. Out of this workshop we have been developing a road map that will guide our work in building the systems needed to power e-governance. Along this journey Microsoft in their view has agree to provide us with the tools needed and to provide technical support and mentoring for our team."

"Essentially what we found out is that taking a lot of pieces and bringing them together, we are able to take our technology to a higher level at very little additional costs. With this new enterprise, we will now be in possession of the resources and tools that we need to move our digital agenda forward."

Angelo Chirico, General Manager - Microsoft Service - Latin America:

"It's my absolute pleasure to be here this afternoon for today's activity where we will sign a memorandum of understanding in which we aim to promote the corporation with the government of Belize to support this digital transformation program. It is our hope that this digital transformation journey will allow the government to explore transformation and solution that can strengthen the formation of their already robust programs in place. I think the foundations are there and at Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person, organization on the planet to achieve more. It brings me joy to see the mission in action today. The focus of our mission is nothing less than changing the world with the technology to address social issues. From a public sector perspective, digital transformation will change the way the work and live, but 60% of people still remain excluded from the benefit of the digital economy. That is why Microsoft is committed to partner with government leaders around to the world in addressing the most pressing challenges."

The integration of new, advanced technology is expected to sharply streamline operations and make Belize more competitive on the global economic scale.
