The number of applications that make use of the SuisseID has increased to over 220 within one year. About half of these services are provided by towns and municipalities, where the inhabitants no longer have to worry about business hours thanks to their SuisseID. A large part of eGovernment transactions may be processed online 24 hours, 7 days a week.
In 2010, the largest purchasers of the SuisseID counted many companies and authorities. More and more municipalities make direct use of the SuisseID to secure their business processes. Thus, already more than 450 municipalities, schools and churches in 23 cantons, have been already able with the SuisseID to access their administration portal and use web and online transaction processing applications.
Many eBusiness, eCommerce and eHealth solutions employing the SuisseID are available from private providers. The complete list of the various uses of the SuisseID can be found at www.SuisseID.ch.
The accelerated implementation of SuisseID was approved by the Federal Council and Parliament during the third stage of the economic stabilisation measures. The launch and promotion of SuisseID by the federal government was therefore designed from the outset as a temporary state intervention. Since early 2011 the 'Trägerschaft SuisseID' association is in charge of the SuisseID. The executive committee of the association consists of five members. These are a representative of the four certified providers of the SuisseID and SECO, owner of the trademark. Furthermore, a working group responsible for the technical support, the brand, the security and the international relations has been formed.
